Biggest Racial Gap In Prison Is Among Violent Offenders – Focusing On Intervention Instead Of Incarceration Could Change The Numbers

Racial disparities in state imprisonment rates dropped significantly during the first two decades of the 21st century.

That’s one of the main findings from a report published by one of us in late 2022, along with Georgia State University colleague William Sabol, for the Council on Criminal Justice, nonpartisan think tank.

That sage Yogi Berra is credited with saying, ‘’When you come to a fork in the road, take it.” There can be much value hidden in the enigma of koan-like guidance, but we hope that our mentors can do a little better than this.

It’s expensive to pollute the water in Colorado. The state’s median fine for companies caught violating the federal Clean Water Act is over US$30,000, and violators can be charged much more. In Montana, however, most violators get barely a slap on the wrist – the median fine there is $300.

LINCOLN — Nebraska would join 48 other states in providing some form of public funds to private schools under a bill given 31-12 first-round approval Wednesday.

The advancement of the Opportunity Scholarships Act marks the first time in several years that a “school choice” bill has moved forward in the Nebraska Legislature.
