Protest Resumes At Site Of Housing Development Near Lincoln’s Wilderness Park

LINCOLN — Native American activists were back protesting Monday at the site of a housing development planned near Wilderness Park, across the road from a location for sweat lodge ceremonies.

Lincoln police were called to the site after activists blocked equipment that began removing trees from the site Monday morning.

Contaminants From AltEn Plant Found In More Homes, Streams And Soil

MEAD — Residents near the closed AltEn ethanol plant were told Monday night that contaminants found in area homes were “significantly higher” than those found in houses in Omaha and another rural community, Kennard.

Nebraska’s First Amazon ‘Fulfillment Center’ Opens On Sprawling Sarpy County Site

PAPILLION — Nebraska’s first and massive Amazon “fulfillment center” has opened in this Omaha metro area suburb, initially employing about 300 (not including robots that are to work alongside the humans).

The launch announced Tuesday comes later than the originally projected 2022 opening date, but sooner than the 2024 date that officials last year said was more likely due to “supply chain issues.”

Core Of Nebraska’s Oldest City Poised For Renewal, Though Development Partner Drops Out

BELLEVUE — One partner has pulled out but another says it will push forward on a real estate redevelopment billed as a kickoff to renewal in Olde Town Bellevue.

Amid fanfare last summer, officials in Nebraska’s oldest and third largest city unveiled plans for a $12 million mixed-use apartment building on the site of the now-razed City Hall.

Habitat For Humanity To Muscle Up Affordable Housing Efforts In Omaha Area

OMAHA — Habitat for Humanity of Omaha, boosted by donations and $4 million in federal pandemic recovery funds, plans to build or rehab about 400 houses for lower income families over the next four years.

The nonprofit expects to invest more than $200 million by the end of 2026 in housing programs — almost double the amount from the previous four years, said Chief Executive Officer Amanda Brewer.

Google Seeks To Stretch Farther In Northwest Omaha

OMAHA — Google wants to expand its Nebraska footprint with an additional 187 acres that abuts its roughly 270-acre data center site already under construction in northwest Omaha.

In all, the developer representing Google would control about 460 acres of once rolling agricultural hillside northwest of State Street and Blair High Road.

Up The Odds Of Meeting Money Goals In 2023

OMAHA — Child Saving Institute hopes to begin construction this spring on a $46 million project expected to expand services and more than double its campus size at 45th and Dodge Streets.

Leaders of the 130-year-old CSI said the project, enabled by a capital campaign that’s about 60% to its goal, aims to address growing community needs and enhance day-to-day experiences of CSI’s kids, families and staff.
