In reality, Nebraska likely isn’t for everyone, but it’s time for the state’s tourism commission to drop the slogan and give the world a chance to decide for itself.

On June 6 1944, more than 150,000 Allied troops landed in Normandy. Their number rose to 1.5 million over the next six weeks. With them came millions of tons of equipment, ranging from munitions, vehicles, food and fuel to prefabricated floating harbours.

Even people born in Nebraska might struggle to find the village of Ohiowa on a state map. But this community of about 100 residents in Fillmore County has been host to visitors from all over the world, many who found their way thanks to Lazy Horse Brewing and Winery.

If you live in Lincoln, there’s a good chance you’ve had to go to Omaha at least once. If you’re lucky, those times are few and far between and you have a car or some form of reliable transportation.

The law, as complex as it may seem, is quite simply the moral code we all share. It is our society codified with structures that may be used to uplift or burden those who live by it and under it.

Of all the policies a state legislator could possibly advocate for, there are perhaps none that seem as shameless as trying to raise their own pay. Yet, there may also be no other budget item that costs the state so little money while having such a major impact on the citizen’s reputation.

But we also don’t judge ourselves by how neatly we all agree — we judge ourselves by how we can disagree, sometimes passionately, and still move forward together.
