Attendance Taken at 5:50 PM. Jeremy Dick: Present, Tim Dreessen: Present, Kara Neuverth: Absent, Joe Pick: Present, Steve Shannon: Absent, Allyson Slobotski: Present.

 

I. Call Meeting to Order- Board President Allyson Slobotski called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. noting the meeting is governed by the Open Meetings Act, which is available on the south end of the room.  

 

II. Public Forum- One person from the public was present to speak.

 

III. Consent Agenda- Items on the consent agenda are considered routine and will be enacted under one motion. There will be no separate discussion of these items at the meeting unless a Board Member requests an item removed from the agenda for separate action. Approval of Agenda, Approval of Minutes of the Monday, May 11, 2026 - Regular Meeting, Presentation of June Bills for Approval and Payment, Personnel: Resignation(s) and Hiring of Personnel.

June 2026 Personnel Notes: Certified Staff Hire: Kelli Staub- Teacher, Bennington High School. Classified Staff Hire: Andrew Neboshynsky- Network Administrator for the District. Certified Staff Resignations: None.  Classified Staff Resignations: Doug Kibbe, Patricia Lamb, Gerald Ruff.  

 

IV. Items Removed From the Consent Agenda for Separate Action- There were no items removed from the Consent Agenda.  

 

V. Reports- Administrative Reports: Elementary - Katie Woodrich, Middle School - Lucas Apfelbeck, High School - Chris Kessell, Student Services - Dan Bombeck, CIA - Jimmy Feeney, Operations - Matt Blomenkamp, Superintendent - Aaron Plas.  Committee Reports: Building/Finance, Curriculum, Policy, Coordinator – None.  Spotlight - Activities - Erika Hiemstra (BSMS) and Chris Kessell (BHS), Lobbyist - N/A.

 

VI. Unfinished Business

VI.A. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on Preschool, Elementary, Middle School and High School Handbooks- The Board was provided with an overview of the student handbooks during the May meeting. This overview included recommended changes.

VII. New Business

VII.A. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on Mascot/Colors for the Second High School-  A Core Team was formed with representatives including administrators, teachers, support staff, parents, and community members. This team began reviewing the next steps for the high school, with the first order of business being selecting a mascot and school colors.  The committee narrowed the choices down to three color palettes. Those choices were reviewed by members of the Board of Education committees, where they were able to provide opinions, ask questions, and make recommendations.  Main Color: Navy Blue.  Secondary Colors: Silver along with a highlight color of Yellow.  Mascot: The mascot for the second high school: Coyotes. 

 

MOTION PASSED:  Motion to approve the colors and mascot as presented for the second high school at BPS, passed with a motion by Jeremy Dick and a second by Tim Dreessen.

VII.B. Discuss and Consider the First Reading to Revise Policies- The following policies were recommended for approval by Perry Law and the Policy Committee.  Policy 1007.00 Education Agency Relations, Policy 804.02 Data or Records Retention, Policy 605.07 Part-time Enrollment, Policy 502.06 Transfers Out, Policy 502.02 Nonresident Students Option Enrollment/Policy 502.02R1 Regulatory Document, Policy 503.01 Compulsory Attendance, Policy 505.03 Suspension and Expulsion, Policy 611.07 Graduation Requirements, Policy 203.01 Organizational Meeting, Policy 204.07 Meeting Notice.    

 

VII.C. Discuss Demographer Report for Bennington Public Schools- In December 2025, the district entered into a contract with RSP & Associates to complete two demographic studies. The first study was scheduled to be completed in the spring and provide a detailed review of current district demographics, a historical analysis of enrollment and housing trends, and projections of future enrollment based on planned and anticipated development. Dr. Plas provided a presentation of the executive summary prepared by RSP & Associates.

 

VII.D. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on Superintendent Contract- Presented for approval was a new superintendent contract for 2026-27, 2027-28, and 2028-29.
