Public Hearings on Ballot Initiatives Set for Omaha
Voters are invited to participate in a public hearing next week about four ballot initiatives on the general election ballot.
Secretary of State Bob Evnen announced the 2nd Congressional District hearings will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Omaha-Douglas Civic Center, 1819 Farnam St. in Omaha.
A hearing on Initiative Measure 428, related to payday lending, will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Conference Room 702 (or the Legislative Chambers if it’s not used for jury selection; signs will be posted). A hearing on Initiative Measures 429, 430 and 431, related to games of chance, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Legislature Chambers.
Evnen is required to host public hearings in each congressional district for initiative petition measured on general election ballots. The hearings for the 3rd District are Monday at Mid-Plains Community College South Campus in North Platte. The 1st District hearings were held Oct. 8.
“The purpose of the meetings is to educate citizens and the media on the initiatives prior to the elections,” Evnen said in a news release.
