Bright and early on Tuesday the 26th of April, people gathered in the Douglas County Legislative Chambers for a variety of recognitions. Among them was recognition of the Honorable Michael W. Amdor Memorial Law Library. The Omaha Bar Association awarded the Honorable Michael W. Amdor Memorial Law Library the 2022 OBA Public Service Award for Non-Attorneys with special recognition to Lynn M. Morton, who has served patrons of the library since 1992.

The Law Day Poster Contest is adjudicated by the Nebraska Paralegal Association. The contest is open to Omaha area 5th graders. The winning poster has been put on display for the month of May on a billboard on 84th Street, visible as you go Southbound, just North of L St.1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will receive cash prizes from the Omaha Bar Association.

J. Scott Paul grew up in Davenport, Iowa. After graduating high school, Scott attended The University of Iowa where he got a bachelor’s in business administration. Scott was accepted to three law schools after graduating from The University of Iowa. Out of the three schools that accepted him, Scott thought Creighton to be the best of the three.

For the past seven years, the Omaha Bar Association has been awarding three deserving attorneys with the Alfred G. Ellick Lawyer Referral Service Award. The award is given to lawyers that have been part of the OBA Lawyer Referral program for ten or more years. This program lets people in need of legal advice to reach out to lawyers for a small fee and find the legal help that they need. This year, the winners of the award are:

Judge Laurie Smith Camp was an innovator with depths of integrity. She was the first female federal judge in Nebraska, and a strong advocate for women leadership. After her passing in 2020, the Omaha Bar Association dubbed this award in her honor.

Law day’s theme this year is “Toward a More Perfect Union: The Constitution in Times of Change.” Educators are the cornerstone of our country; the cornerstone of creating a more perfect union via our posterity. This year’s luncheon speaker is Ms. Rebecca Begley. She teaches United States history and civics at an eighth grade level and helps to mold the future of our community.

The Nebraska Paralegal Association sponsored its annual poster contest for area fifth grade students in conjunction with Omaha Bar Association Law Day celebration.
The winning poster has been put on display for the month of May on a billboard on the east side of northbound 90th Street just south of Maple Road. The first through third place finishers also received cash prizes from the Omaha Bar Association.

The Daily Record sponsored the annual essay contest for area eighth grade students in conjunction with the Omaha Bar Association Law Day celebration, which has traditionally been coordinated by members of the Omaha Legal Professionals Association.
