Reclassification Of Small Nebraska School Districts Opens Door To Arming Select Staff

LINCOLN — A new state law could lead to greater efficiency in setting rules, regulations and safety standards for some of Nebraska’s smallest school districts.

Nebraska Education Commissioner Brian Maher reclassified or shifted roughly 80% of the state’s 245 school districts to new, smaller levels at the beginning of the year.

OMAHA — The Nebraska chapter of a national Latino-focused civil rights organization is pressing the Omaha Police Department to accept more formal input from the people it polices.

Local leaders with the League of United Latin American Citizens, or LULAC, say they want the City of Omaha to formalize a new citizens advisory committee for local police.

NEW YORK (AP) — The man accused of burning a sleeping woman to death inside a New York City subway train has been indicted on murder and arson charges, prosecutors announced Friday, as authorities continue working to identify the victim.
