Pillen Rallies Abortion Opponents At Nebraska Walk For Life To Fight Against Abortion Ballot Initiative

LINCOLN — Thousands of Nebraska abortion opponents marched Saturday from the State Capitol to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the annual Walk for Life.

But this year’s gathering struck a more somber tone than last year’s, which celebrated the U.S. Supreme Court striking down Roe v. Wade and sending abortion decisions back to the states.

Gov. Jim Pillen and all five members of Nebraska’s congressional delegation — all Republicans — attended the march, focusing much of their attention on a potential ballot initiative to enshrine abortion in the State Constitution.

Omaha Landmark Awarded Funds In National Effort To Preserve Legacy Of America’s Black Churches

OMAHA — A North Omaha landmark, built more than a century ago, is part of a national wave of religious buildings that will share $4 million awarded last week under a program to protect the legacy of America’s Black churches.

The former Calvin Memorial Presbyterian Church, 3105 N. 24th St., is to benefit from a $100,000 planning grant aimed at helping to transform the vacant church with a distinctive dome and white columns into a community center.

Experts Predicted Dozens Of Colleges Would Close In 2023 — And They Were Right

Though college enrollment seems to be stabilizing after the pandemic disruptions, predictions for the next 15 years are grim. Colleges will be hurt financially by fewer tuition-paying students, and many will have to merge with other institutions or make significant changes to the way they operate if they want to keep their doors open.

Mouthwatering scents fill the basement kitchen where Djamil Djibril Bah-Traore is teaching his latest class of students how to make their way in America.

He shows them how to chop vegetables, measure spices and prepare dishes for an upcoming event catered by House of Bah, the company and nonprofit foundation that Bah-Traore started.

Erika Geiss knew from personal experience what her proposed legislation could do for her constituents when she introduced a bill last summer that would provide Michiganders with paid family leave. Geiss, a Democrat, said there were times she had to unexpectedly miss votes to care for her child who has a rare form of juvenile cancer.
