Omaha Group Poised For Role In Helping Asylum-Seekers Crowding Southern U.S. Border

OMAHA — A team of Omahans is preparing to offer temporary refuge to a busload of asylum-seeking migrants crossing the Texas border at a rate that has overwhelmed shelters and has had some sleeping on the streets.

Calling it a humanitarian outreach, the local volunteers have formed a nonprofit organization and dubbed their effort Omaha Welcomes the Stranger.

Posting on Twitter has changed since Elon Musk finalized his $44 billion takeover of the micro-blogging platform.

One of Musk’s first orders as CEO: Adding opt-in paid verification to the social networking platform’s Twitter Blue program. Previously, account verification was used to credibly identify people or organizations of public interest and did not require payment.

Omaha Performing Arts Celebrates 20th Anniversary Of President Joan Squires

Omaha (November 11, 2022) – Before 2002 when the Holland Performing Arts Center was being developed, there were no award-winning touring Broadway shows, international dance companies or renowned entertainers regularly coming to Omaha.  No programs providing talented Nebraska teenagers classes taught by Broadway stars. No performing arts diversity and inclusion programs that were recognized as national models.

$66 Million Headed To Support Nebraska Childcare Workers With Stipends, Student Loan Aid

OMAHA — In an effort to build up Nebraska’s childcare workforce, the state is preparing to distribute $66 million in incentives that include worker stipends and student loan repayments.

The funds target providers and employees and are expected to expand access to quality childcare.

Mindfulness Worked As Well For Anxiety As Drug, In Study

Mindfulness meditation worked as well as a standard drug for treating anxiety in the first head-to-head comparison.

The study tested a widely used mindfulness program that includes 2 1/2 hours of classes weekly and 45 minutes of daily practice at home. Participants were randomly assigned to the program or daily use of a generic drug sold under the brand name Lexapro for depression and anxiety.
