MOMBASA, Kenya (AP) — Dressed in protective clothing and armed with a smoker, Peter Nyongesa walked through the mangroves to monitor his beehives along the Indian Ocean coastline.
The 69-year-old Nyongesa recalled how he would plead unsuccessfully with loggers to spare the mangroves or cut only the mature ones while leaving the younger ones intact.

Detroiters who face rising rents, poor living conditions and systemic barriers to affordable and safe housing are at greater risk of poor health, our research finds.
We study the connection between housing inequities and health, with the goal of informing local, state and national policy. Our focus is on how interdisciplinary research on housing relates to equity in health, race, income and aging.

LINCOLN — The Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska is celebrating the righting of a five-decade-old wrong.
The U.S. Senate unanimously passed a bill last week that will return about 1,600 acres of land to the tribe along the Missouri River that was taken illegally in the 1970s for a proposed recreation project.

LINCOLN – A mansion being built by a local businessman implicated in a multimillion-dollar bank fraud case has a new name and a record-high price.
The partly finished luxury home and “barndominium” being built by Aaron Marshbanks in east Lincoln is now called “The Plainsman” and, when mostly finished, is being offered for sale at $6.469 million.
