While Omaha enjoys economic growth at an impressive rate, Omaha's mayor sets his sights on tying local development opportunities with social responsibilities. And he does it "intentionally."

Mayor John Ewing Jr. discussed his goals during the 37th annual Commercial Real Estate Summit in Omaha on Aug. 22.

Summer heat is bearing down on U.S. prisons, where temperatures in uncooled cells can climb well into the triple digits.

Facing growing pressure from advocacy groups, lawsuits and climate projections that show hotter days ahead, some state prison systems are moving to install air conditioning and expand cooling measures — though many facilities remain years away from significant upgrades.

BLAIR, Nebraska — Blair is about to get its first new major apartment complex in a quarter-century — a 132-unit market rate project the public is chipping in for to help boost business and growth in the town a half hour north of Omaha.

OMAHA — A new house popped up suddenly last week in the Miller Park neighborhood of North Omaha.

It arrived by truck in huge chunks built by construction students at a nearby college specifically to fit the narrow lot where the components were assembled.

Storm Displaces 387 Inmates As Nebraska Prison Loses Roof From Two Housing Units

LINCOLN — Straight-line winds of 80-90 mph tore the roof off of parts of two housing units Saturday at the aging Nebraska State Penitentiary, displacing 387 inmates, the state announced.

Damage estimates and first steps toward temporary repairs were still taking place Monday, though more information was expected from the Department of Correctional Services.
