Bill To Prevent Local Rent Controls In Nebraska Moves A Step Forward, With Certain Exceptions

The sponsor of legislation in Nebraska seeking to outlaw most local forms of rent control says he is trying to make sure investors want to build more new apartment buildings.

LINCOLN — A measure that would prevent local governments from imposing rent controls on private property, with some exceptions, took a step forward in the Nebraska Legislature on Monday.

Legislative Bill 266, introduced by State Sen. Rob Dover of Norfolk, moved ahead on a 32-5 vote despite objections from a handful of Democratic lawmakers.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Facing projections of spiking energy demand, U.S. states are pressing for ways to build new power plants faster as policymakers increasingly worry about protecting their residents and economies from rising electric bills, power outages and other consequences of falling behind Big Tech in a race for electricity.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Starlette Thomas remembers coming down almost daily to the intersection of 16th and H streets, to protest police brutality and systemic racial iniquities during the summer of 2020.

On Monday, the 45-year old Bowie, Maryland resident returned to the site of those protests to mourn the end of Black Lives Matter Plaza.

LINCOLN – State lawmakers were told Monday that restoring funding for a Standing Bear museum and improvements at two large lakes would enhance tourism and economic development and honor “an extraordinary Nebraskan.”

Generally though, eventually a series will bleed out as more are made until it is forgotten, or laughed at. Usually because the first movie in a series was inspired by some novel idea, moral, or angle that captivated audiences.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Miami Beach broke up with spring break last year and city leaders still aren't interested in couples counseling.

Officials recently announced they were bringing back enhanced security measures for practically the entire month of March, including parking restrictions and increased fees for nonresidents.
