Omaha, Neb. – Rep. Don Bacon (NE-02) announced the winning artists from Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District for this year’s Congressional Art Competition on May 13, 2022. The event, held at the KANECKO Art Gallery, 1111 Jones St., Omaha, Neb., was held in person this year after having been virtual due to the pandemic.

Judging was conducted by the Nebraska Art Teachers Association. The guest speaker for the event was Ina Ohnmeiss, an artist and the owner of Eagle Art and Photography. Rep. Bacon recognized Dr. Deborah Bowers Kippley, Chief Creative Officer and Co-founder of the Papillion La Vista Arts Network, for her work organizing the Congressional Art Competition for over 15 years.

“Every year, I am amazed at the talent our youth in the Second District display through their artwork and we need to honor and encourage them to pursue their dreams,” said Bacon. “We are thrilled to be able to gather in person and give these students the recognition they deserve. Congratulations to the winners and all of the participants.”

Honorable Mentions:

“Manic”by Cristian Rocha of Omaha Benson High School

“Dog Eye” by Delany Dotzler of Omaha Burke High School

“Dobra Polyska” by Zoe Irene Gilmore of Omaha’s Brownell Talbot College Preparatory School

The first-place artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. The runners-up will be displayed in Rep. Bacon’s Washington, D.C. and Omaha offices. In addition, the first-place winner will be invited to attend an award ceremony in Washington, D.C. honoring the winning artists from all over the country.
