Posting Information:  Notice published in the Daily Record on 04/10/2026.  Notice of meeting posted on the District website.  Agendas posted at all Bennington Public School buildings three days prior to the meeting date.  

 

Attendance Taken at 6:00 PM. Jeremy Dick: Absent, Tim Dreessen: Present, Kara Neuverth: Present, Joe Pick: Present, Steve Shannon: Present, Allyson Slobotski: Present.

 

I. Call Meeting to Order- Board President Allyson Slobotski called the meeting to order at 6:06 p.m. noting the meeting is governed by the Open Meetings Act, which is available on the south end of the room.  

 

II. Public Forum- No one from the public was present to speak.  

 

III. Consent Agenda- Items on the consent agenda are considered routine and will be enacted under one motion. There will be no separate discussion of these items at the meeting unless a Board Member requests an item removed from the agenda for separate action.  Approval of Agenda, Approval of Minutes of the Monday, March 9, 2026 - Regular Meeting, Presentation of April Bills for Approval and Payment, Personnel: Resignation(s) and Hiring of Personnel.

April 2026 Personnel Notes:  Certified Staff Hire: Millie Mitchell- teacher at Bennington Middle School, Mahra Steffens- teacher at Bennington Elementary, Kinley Riesselman- teacher at Heritage Elementary, Jessic Bentz- teacher at Pine Creek Elementary. Jackie Morales- math teacher at Bennington High School, Michelle Doyle- special education teacher at Bennington High School, Megan Case- speech language pathologist for the District, Lily Weindel- 3rd grade teacher at Heritage Elementary. Classified Staff Hire: Kayllee LaShure- Activities Secretary at Bennington High School, Kylie Peters- preschool paraprofessional at Anchor Pointe Elementary, Breann Hartman- paraprofessional at Bennington South Middle School, Erica Sevilla- preschool paraprofessional at Anchor Pointe Elementary, Corrigan Lehman- paraprofessional at Bennington Elementary, Liz LaBombard- athletic trainer for the District.  Certified Staff Resignations: Carlee Watson, Jonna Pohlman, Hanna Gillett, Dawn Kucera is retiring, Alexis Nielsen- Alex McCabe.  Classified Staff Resignations:  Montana Milner, Anna Nardela, Bryan Gonzalez, Angie Kienbaum.

VII.A. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on Curriculum and Personnel Proposals-  The Curriculum Committee has continued to review proposals that were highly prioritized by both the Curriculum/Proposal Committee and the Administrative/BOE Committee. The Curriculum Committee recommended the following high-ranking proposals for approval: #36 Network Administrator.  The Current System Administrator position will be split into two separate positions, System Administrator and Network Administrator.

 

MOTION PASSED: Motion to accept the recommendations by the Curriculum Committee for 2026-27 curriculum and personnel proposals #36 as outlined in the March 9, 2026, Curriculum Committee Report and pending 2026-27 budget approval, passed with a motion by Steve Shannon and a second by Joe Pick.  Tim Dreessen: Yea, Kara Neuverth: Yea, Joe Pick: Yea, Steve Shannon: Yea, Allyson Slobotski: Yea

 

VII.B. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on District Purchases- The Building and Finance Committee recommended the purchase of a new 10-passenger van for $64,656.  This van meets all federal requirements and is budgeted within the district’s vehicle replacement plan.

VII.C. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on Summer Maintenance Purchases- The Building and Finance Committee is unanimously recommending the following be approved for the 2025-26 summer maintenance and repairs:  Bennington Elementary, HVAC replacement up to $206,164, Pine Creek carpet replacement up to $160,351, District concrete replacement up to $215,000.  Multiple bids were acquired when possible, on each of the items. These bids were reviewed by the Building/Finance committee and recommended for approval.

VII.D. Discuss, Consider and Take All Necessary Action with Regard to Possible Approval of a Permanent Water Main Easement with the Metropolitan Utilities District of Omaha for Property Owned by the School District in the Morgan Ridge Development- Metropolitan Utilities District (MUD) has requested a small permanent water main easement on the district’s lot for the construction and maintenance of a water main to supply water to Morgan Ridge Phase II, which would include water for the future elementary school and help avoid conflict with proposed storm and sanitary sewers.

 

MOTION PASSED: The Board of Education of this School District should, and does hereby, authorize and approve the permanent water main easement with the Metropolitan Utilities District of Omaha, and this School District relating to certain improvements in and for the school property located along North 156th Street in the Morgan Ridge development, and that the Board hereby approves and adopts the attached Resolution, passed with a motion by Allyson Slobotski and a second by Joe Pick.  Tim Dreessen: Yea, Kara Neuverth: Yea, Joe Pick: Yea, Steve Shannon: Yea, Allyson Slobotski: Yea

 

VII.E. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on Certified Staff Report- A list of non-tenured and tenured teaching and administrative staff for the 2026-27 school year was presented.

VII.F. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on 2026-2027 Lunch and Breakfast Prices- To help the district make decisions on the appropriate placement of pricing for meals, an array utilizing 18 metro school districts was created, and an analysis of the school nutrition fund was performed.  It was recommended to increase the price of all meals by $.10 cents.
