I. Call Meeting to Order- Board President Allyson Slobotski called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. noting the meeting is governed by the Open Meetings Act, which is available on the south end of the room.  

 

II. Public Forum- One person from the public was present to speak.  

 

III. Consent Agenda- Items on the consent agenda are considered routine and will be enacted under one motion. There will be no separate discussion of these items at the meeting unless a Board Member requests an item removed from the agenda for separate action.  Approval of Agenda, Approval of Minutes of the Monday, April 13, 2026 - Regular Meeting, Presentation of May Bills for Approval and Payment, Personnel: Resignation(s) and Hiring of Personnel

VII.A. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on Curriculum and Personnel Proposals- The Curriculum Committee met on April 13th to continue the process of determining which curriculum and personnel proposals to recommend for the 2026-27 school year. The Curriculum Committee is recommending the following high-ranking proposals for approval: #36 Elementary Department Leads, #25 Marimba Club Sponsor, #3 ACT Academy, #48 Project Adam Champion.

 

MOTION PASSED: Motion to accept the recommendations by the Curriculum Committee for 2026-27 curriculum and personnel proposals #36, #25, #3, and #48 as outlined in the April 13, 2026, Curriculum Committee Report and pending 2026-27 budget approval, passed with a motion by Steve Shannon and a second by Joe Pick.  Jeremy Dick: Yea, Tim Dreessen: Yea, Kara Neuverth: Yea, Joe Pick: Yea, Steve Shannon: Yea, Allyson Slobotski: Yea

 

VII.B. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on District Purchases- The Building/Finance Committee met on May 4th to discuss potential district purchases. At the conclusion, the Building and Finance Committee recommended the following be approved for purchase: BHS walk-in freezer for $29,096.

VII.C. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on Bid Contracts for the Second High School Project- On Friday, May 1st, 2025, the District received bids from general contractors for the Bennington Public Schools Second High School Site project.  Hausmann received bids for the scopes that were not included in the original approvals.

VII.D. Discuss and Consider Preschool, Elementary, Middle School and High School Handbook Revisions- Each year, the Board of Education is asked to approve the student handbooks at the preschool, elementary, middle school, and high school levels. Handbooks could be approved at the June meeting to allow time to prepare for the upcoming school year.  Discussion item only.  

 

VII.E. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on K-12 Math Textbook Adoption- The Bennington K-5th grade Math Committee Members determined that Elementary: Core: Amplify Desmos Math, Diagnostic Assessments: mCLASS Math, Intervention and Targeted Instruction: Boost Math and Aimsweb Plus.  6th grade, 7th grade, & 8th grade Math & You (Cengage/Larson, 2025), Algebra, Geometry, & Advanced Algebra Concepts & Connections (Cengage/Larson, 2027).  High School Electives: Precalculus, Mathematics for Calculus (8th edition), Stewart, Redlin, Watson, Finite Math: 1-year Digital Access (Current Course, Pearson), AP Calculus: Calculus of a Single Variable, AP (12th edition), Larson, Edwards, were the best adoption options.

VII.F. EXECUTIVE SESSION to Discussion Certified Staff Negotiations- The BOE entered into Executive Session at 7:03 PM to discuss superintendent contract information.

 

MOTION PASSED: Motion to enter into executive session to evaluate the job performance of an individual and prevent the needless injury to the reputation of that individual, and for negotiations between the board and superintendent, passed with a motion by Tim Dreessen and a second by Joe Pick.  Jeremy Dick: Yea, Tim Dreessen: Yea, Kara Neuverth: Yea, Joe Pick: Yea, Steve Shannon: Yea, Allyson Slobotski: Yea
