The Douglas County Election Commission has announced the field of candidates for the upcoming Omaha municipal primary election.

The primary will be held Tuesday, April 6, with polls open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Early voting will begin Monday, March 22, during regular hours at the commission and between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 3.

Early voting ballots must be requested prior to Friday, March 26.

Election Commissioner Brian W. Kruse said nearly 100,000 voters went to the polls last November, favoring in-person voting to mail-in ballots.

“During the 2020 primary and general elections, safe, in-person voting occurred at polling places,” Kruse said.

All registered voters living with Omaha city limits are eligible to participate in the nonpartisan primary.

Registrations are due Friday, March 19 – either postmarked or prior to midnight online. In-person voter registration will continue until 6 p.m. Friday, March 26, at the commission’s office at 12220 W. Center Road.

The general election will be held Tuesday, May 11. The candidates for Omaha mayor are Kimara Snipes, RJ Neary, Jean Stothert, Jasmine L. Harris and Mark Gudgel.

The Omaha City Council candidates in District 1 are Pete Festersen, Paul Anderson, Sarah Johnson and Tyeisha Kosmicki. The District 2 candidates are Jonathan C. Lathan, Juanita Johnson, Ben Gray, Cornelius F. Williams, Steven Abraham and David Mitchell. The District 3 candidates are Danny Begley, Gilbert Ayala, Cammy Watkins and Jen Bauer. The District 4 candidates are Vinny Palermo, Sarah Smolen, Ben Cass and Becky Barrientos-Patlan. The District 5 candidates are Don Rowe, Jeff Moore, Patrick Leahy, Colleen Brennan, Kathleen R. Kauth, Destiny Stark and Kate Gotsdiner. The District 6 candidates are Naomi Hattaway and Brinker Harding. The District 7 candidates are Sara Kohen and Aimee Melton.

Write-in candidates must file by Friday, March 26.
