Dollar General Opens ‘Small Box’ Store in Brandeis Building
Dollar General has opened a new urban concept store in downtown Omaha that blends a traditional dollar store with a quick-trip convenience store.
The DGX store is located in the northeast corner of the Brandeis Building, a block away from the federal and county courthouses and Omaha-Douglas Civic Center, at 210 S. 16th St., Suite 115.
Grand opening celebrations will be held today and Saturday at 8 a.m., including complimentary gift bags and $10 Dollar General gift cards for the first 50 adult shoppers each day. Customers can also register for a year of free shopping – valued at $520 – and enjoy complimentary granola bars and coffee during the events.
The store, which will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., sells items geared toward immediate consumption, such as soda, coffee and grab-and-go sandwiches.
Dollar General’s DGX “smaller-box” store format offers an expanded health and beauty section, frozen and refrigerated food items, pet supplies, candies and snacks, paper products and home cleaning supplies, as well as limited home decor, electronics and seasonal offerings.
“We are excited for the opportunity to serve downtown communities and city-dwellers with the essentials they need in a convenient, easy-to-shop format through our DGX store,” Dan Nieser, Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and development, said in a statement provided to The Daily Record.
The first DGX store opened in Nashville, Tennessee, in November 2016. The company has five other locations and plans to open 20 DGX stores this fiscal year, while expanding its footprint to 46 states. Dollar General has over 16,000 retail locations nationally.
