REGULAR BOARD MEETING
SECTION I - Opening Procedures
Notice of the meeting was given in advance by the publication and/or posting in accordance with the Board approved method for giving notice of meetings. Notice of this meeting was published in the public notices section of the April 23, 2025 edition of The Daily Record and on their website as well as on the district website. Notice of this meeting was given in advance to all members of the Board of Education. The Secretary of the Board maintains a list of the news media requesting notification of meetings and advance notification to the listed media of the time and place of the meeting and the subjects to be discussed at this meeting was provided. Availability of the agenda was communicated in the publicized notice and a current copy of the Agenda was maintained as stated in the publicized notice. All proceedings of the Board of Education, except as may be hereinafter noted, were taken while the convened meeting was open to the attendance of the public.
1.1 Call Meeting to Order - Rick Hollendieck
called the meeting to order.
1.2 Roll Call - Board members present were: Greg Beach, Mark Hauptman, Rick Hollendieck, Kyle Janssen, Dawn Stock and Blake Turpen. Others present were: Travis Lightle, Andrew Rinaldi, Russ Olsen, Mike Sortino, Shawn Hoppes, Andy Boone, Molly Hornbeck,Dan Dzingle, Caroline Foresman and guests.
1.3 Pledge of Allegiance - The board recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
1.4 Approval of Minutes - Motion by Kyle Janssen, seconded by Blake Turpen, to approve the minutes of April 14, 2025. A roll call vote was taken - Blake Turpen, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Greg Beach, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; and Dawn Stock, yes.
Motion carried. Yeas 6; Nays 0; Absent 0.
1.5 Recognition of Visitors - We had no one requesting to appear before the board.
SECTION II - Matters Requiring Board Action
2.1 Approval of Resignations and Contracts (SP 4) - Motion by Kyle Janssen, seconded by Blake Turpen to approve the contracts as stated.. A roll call vote was taken - Kyle Janssen, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Blake Turpen, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; Dawn Stock, yes; and Greg Beach, yes.
Motion carried. Yeas 6; Nays 0; Absent 0.
2.2 Consider Approval of Out of State Trip Request(s) (SP 1) - Motion by Blake Turpen, seconded by Mark Hauptman to approve the out-of-state travel requests for the GHS Band trip to California and GHS & GEHS USA Skills trip to Atlanta. - Dawn Stock, yes; Greg Beach, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; Blake Turpen, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; and Rick Hollendieck, yes.
Motion carried. Yeas 6; Nays 0; Absent 0.
2.3 Consider Approval of Alternate Bids for GHS Track Project (SP 2) - Motion by Mark Hauptman, seconded by Blake Turpen to approve the Alternate Bid 1 for the GHS track project. A roll call vote was taken - Mark Hauptman, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; Greg Beach, no; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Blake Turpen, yes; and Dawn Stock, yes.
Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 1; Absent 0.
Motion by Kyle Janssen, seconded by Blake Turpen to approve up to $45,000 to use towards items in Alternate Bid 2 for the GHS track project. A roll call vote was taken - Greg Beach, no; Dawn Stock, yes; Blake Turpen, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; and Kyle Janssen, yes.
Motion carried. Yeas 5, Nays 1; Absent 0.
SECTION III – Reports
3.1 Americanism Report (SP 1) - Shawn Hoppes and his team presented the Americanism Report and discussed the legal requirements behind it.
3.2 Construction Report (SP 2) - Jack Nelson from MCL shared updates on the construction of Giles Creek Middle School.
3.3 Legislative Report (SP 2) - Burke Harr provided a review of the current legislative bills.
3.4 Elementary Budget Report (SP 2) - Russ Olsen presented the second of four budget reports.
SECTION IV - Announcements and Dates
4.1 Adjournment - Motion by Kyle Janssen, seconded by Mark Hauptman, to adjourn the meeting. A roll call vote was taken - Kyle Janssen, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Blake Turpen, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; Dawn Stock, yes; and Greg Beach, yes.
Motion carried. Yeas 6; Nays 0; Absent 0.
