Hayneedle announced last Thursday that pink slips would go to about 200 Omaha employees.
Employees being laid off were told by the online retailer’s parent company, Walmart, that they’ll get at least 60 days notice and be eligible for other jobs within Walmart’s network.
About 100 Hayneedle employees will remain in the metro area at a Sarpy County call center.
A spokesperson for Walmart said told The Daily Record in a statement that the Hayneedle business and some functions are being integrated into Walmart’s website but that Hayneedle’s website will remain operational, as well private brands like Belham Living and Coral Coast.
“Our focus foremost is on helping the associates affected, and supporting them during this difficult transition,” the spokesperson said.
Hayneedle will close its corporate headquarters in Omaha. A property management sign was visible outside the building Friday morning.
Hayneedle, which was founded in Omaha in 2002, had employed nearly 700 workers at three sites in Omaha in recent years. But last May, nearly 240 workers were laid off as part of a restructuring.
The company was acquired by Jet.com in 2016, and it was acquired by Walmart shortly thereafter. Jet and Hayneedle’s websites have been operated independently by Walamrt.
