Jackson Lewis Recognized By U.S. News And Best Lawyers
Jackson Lewis P.C., a nationwide law firm with a strong local presence, has been recognized for its excellence with a Tier 1 Metropolitan designation by U.S. News and Best Lawyers.
The Omaha office was recognized in the areas of Employment Law-Management, Immigration Law, Labor Law-Management, and Litigation-Labor & Management. The local office was not alone in receiving the recognition, according to Chad Richter, managing principal of the Omaha office of Jackson Lewis.
“More than 80 percent of Jackson Lewis’ regional offices were recognized in the Best Law Firms Report,” Richter state. “Many of our offices earned a Tier 1 status in various labor and employment categories.”
In addition to the categories mentioned above, those included Employment Benefits (ERISA) Law, and Sports Law. The firm employs over 950 attorneys in more than 60 offices. Locally, Jackson Lewis has 20 attorneys, 14 paralegals, and nine support staff.
“Jackson Lewis represents employers across all industries,” Richter said. “The firm also has dedicated industry groups that allow our attorneys to focus heavily on specific industries and know these industries very well.”
That allows the firm to develop a level of expertise in those areas, he explained. In Omaha, Jackson Lewis has a strong presence in food manufacturing, food distribution, staffing, healthcare, financial and insurance services, hospitality, transportation, construction, utilities, warehousing and storage, and telecommunications.
Work like this is only accomplished by employing top talent, and Richter said the legal industry is not immune to the same challenges other industries face when searching for the best talent.
“Given we represent some of the largest companies in America out of the Omaha office, we continually strive for the best and brightest lawyers and paralegals in the region,” he stressed. “We have been very fortunate that there is strong interest in our firm, nationally and locally, given we are currently one of the largest labor and employment law firms in the country.”
The landscape for labor and employment law is in constant flux, as new regulations, recent decisions, challenging regulatory agendas, enforcement initiatives vary across the nation, Richter pointed out.
“With this changing landscape, the need for counsel that is dedicated to one area of the law and knows this area very well is extremely important,” he emphasized. “We have more than 950 lawyers practicing exclusively in labor and employment law, which allows us to stay on the forefront of any changes and advise clients in real time.”
Jackson Lewis has a national presence that provides the firm’s clients with easy access to the latest resources and best practices, he pointed out. Regional offices, like Omaha, provide “boots on the ground” with an understanding of the local legal landscape, including local court practices.
“Although we are a large firm, we don’t just plug clients and matters into a one-size-fits-all formula,” Richter stressed. “We help businesses understand all the options available to them and select the path that furthers their goals.”
With the battle for talent a consideration, Richter said, Jackson Lewis is fortunate that its Omaha office is located in a region with several excellent law schools that allow for the hiring of highly talented lawyers. With the firm established as one of the largest in the field of labor and employment law, Richter feels they have a competitive advantage in terms of the experience their attorneys earn, the training and resources they can provide for career development, and the range of issues they can handle.
“We look for attorneys who are committed to teamwork, collegiality, and client-first solutions — a commitment that is reinforced by firm leadership,” Richter stated. “We also look for attorneys who can present and advise in the board room while also giving practical advice on how to implement on the production floor.”
An attorney at Jackson Lewis is expected to take the time to fully understand a client’s business objectives and become a true partner, in every sense of the word, he emphasized. With the firm exclusively representing management, Richter said every market in which the firm operates is a good market. Any employer of any size, regardless of its workforce composition, will have legal obstacles to be addressed.
Richter said Jackson Lewis believes an inclusive culture makes it a stronger firm, and they share their clients’ goals of emphasizing diversity, inclusion, integrity, and respect for the contributions of every employee.
“We understand the importance of having a workforce that reflects the various communities in which we work,” Richter said.
Asked what he would like people to know about Jackson Lewis, Richter responded, “Whether we are counseling clients on compliance strategies or defending a high-stakes lawsuit, we work with clients to devise an approach that fits with the company’s core values and culture.
“The foundation of our client service philosophy is to build strong relationships, and we believe it is important to learn about each client’s particular industry, business, and culture with the goal of becoming an extension of their team.”
The approach seems to work as Jackson Lewis has received many awards in addition to the award headlined. The firm also is ranked in The Legal 500, Chambers and Partners, and the AmLaw 100. It has been recognized for its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts by the Women Law Empowerment Forum (WILEF), the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, and named a Mansfield Certified Plus law firm.
