The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles opened its new Omaha Metro West service center earlier this month, in time to help catch up on work temporarily postponed at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.
The office is located at 17007 Burt St. in Omaha and is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In remarks before the office’s opening, Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts highlighted the ongoing customer service improvements being made by the DMV in the metro area, including reducing wait times by 70%.
“The opening of this new office completes the transformation of DMV services in the Omaha metro area,” Ricketts said in a news release. “Replicating this new model in west Omaha allows us to deliver more efficient and effective services to Nebraskans.”
The DMV opened its first service center in the metro area in April 2018, and the center has served more than 207,000 customers since then. An express office was opened in north Omaha in June 2019, which handles driver license renewals and state identification cards.
The Metro West office provides driver licensing services, including written and driving tests. Vehicle titling and registration services will continue to be managed by the Douglas County Treasurer’s Office.
“We are excited to complete the transformation of driver licensing services in the Omaha metro area,” said Rhonda Lahm, Director of the Nebraska DMV.
Lahm encouraged Nebraskans to continue to use the DMV’s services online when possible. Dozens of services can be obtained at dmv.nebraska.gov.
