The Washington Merry-Go-Round column was founded by Drew Pearson in 1932 and is the longest running syndicated column in America. Pearson was followed by Jack Anderson. Douglas Cohn and Eleanor Clift took over the column in 2004. Cohn is a retired U.S. Army captain who writes about history. Clift is a political reporter, pundit and author who writes a column for the Daily Beast.

She is a member of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's leadership team. Prior to federal service, she was a state senator in the Nebraska Legislature and a cattle rancher.
