A new study by Coworking Cafe – an information hub that works to find the best coworking spaces across the country – has rated the top cities for maintaining a healthy work/life balance. Evaluating 100 cities, all with populations of 200,000 or higher, they split their metrics into 4 categories: Mental Heath, Affordability, Remote Work, and Commute.

They compared average working hours in a week; percentage of the population with health insurance; air quality; the number or recreational areas per 10,000 residents; the number of outdoor spaces per 1,000 residents; median annual household income; the cost-of-living index; remote workers in the total population; and mean travel time for commuting.

The Midwest dominated the top 10, holding 7 spots. Omaha scored 9th place, just above Des Moines, holding a score of 74.9 on their metrics. Omaha had one of the better commuter scores, and was found to be middle of the road for affordability and mental health ratings, but was in the bottom 3 for remote work available in the city at large. The 9th place ranking is down one spot from a similar survey done last year.

Lincoln, meanwhile, held 3rd place with a score of 82. It had the second highest score for mental health and commute, likely due to the average work week being 37.2 hours, and having a high air quality rating. They also ranked incredibly high for affordability compared to many other cities. However, their remote work score was the worst out of the top 10, with only 9% of workers in Lincoln being able to work remotely.

In 100th place in their study was Garland, Texas, who scored 14.7 out of 100.
