The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services and its public health partners are tracking the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019, or COVID-19, and anticipate it will impact Nebraska residents.

The recent instances of potential person-to-person spread along with deaths in the U.S. is concerning, DHHS said. Older adults and people with underlying health conditions are at increased risk.

DHHS urges Nebraskans to prepare for COVID-19 and other respiratory infections by:

• Staying home if you are sick and avoiding close contact with those who are sick.

• Washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water aren’t available, use an alcohol-based sanitizer.

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze then throw the tissue in the trash.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Individuals can find more information on how to prepare – as well as what to do if you’re sick, advice for pregnant women and children, and tips for travelers – at cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov.
