Douglas County Sheriff Tom Wheeler swore in nine new deputies at a ceremony Tuesday, June 1, 2021. Eight of the recruits completed 22 weeks of law enforcement training at the Sarpy Douglas Law Enforcement Academy, while the ninth is a pre-certified hire from another Nebraska law enforcement agency. They will now start their field training observation period, which can last up to 12 weeks, before beginning regular service. (DCSO)
