Connecting With Your Creativity

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 10/07/2025 - 12:00am

Think about a form of art. It doesn’t even have to be “art”. It can just be some type of creative outlet, right? I mean beyond writing, singing, acting, drawing, sculpture, or any kind of color on a two-dimensional canvas. But let’s start with painting. There are obviously tons of options here: acrylic, watercolor, oil, or even paint markers, to name a few. Each one lends itself to different techniques or even different subjects. But what if you’re not very good? Is that the point?

Where’s The Corn?

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 09/30/2025 - 12:00am

My six year old, Francesca, couldn’t help but feel the contagious energy of total Husker domination the night of September 6th, 2025. Even having to break at the half for bedtime, she had already made a full wardrobe change to an all-red outfit and was excitedly accosting little sister. “33 to zero, Ellie. 33!” Little did she know they would go on to shut out Akron for all four quarters – or that we haven’t been able to celebrate such a feat since long before she was born.

You can taste the secret in Cascio’s spaghetti sauce.

A whiff of umami. A hint of spice balanced with a hint of sweet. Hunks of fork-tender meat. The kind of flavor that only comes from slow simmering for eight hours, because that’s how the Cascio family does it — has always done it — with a recipe straight from Carlentini, Sicily.

What Are We Doing With STEM?

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 09/23/2025 - 12:00am

I sit hunched on my living room floor. Soon I’ll attempt to relieve the shooting pain in my lower back by rolling over onto my stomach like a sea lion sunning on a rock. In front of me sit my two daughters, 3 and 6. Between us lies the colorful, geometric wonderland of Picasso Tiles. The late afternoon sun shines through the assemblies and alights the floor in a kaleidoscope of dazzling rainbows. My daughters work on some impossible maze for their ponies. It has all the appeal of an M.C.
