From Punk To Punchlines: Omaha’s Homegrown Comedy Scene Finds A Home

On a still-bright Wednesday evening, a smattering of people step off of a sidewalk on Harney Street in Omaha and into a small space that one might easily miss, if not for a circle of people smoking outside.

Through the large front windows, The Backline looks like your typical watering hole. The main attraction hides beyond the bar: a large room with black walls, bright lights and red-cushioned metal chairs.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department sued Ticketmaster and its parent company Thursday, accusing them of running an illegal monopoly over live events in America and asking a court to break up the system that squelches competition and drives up prices for fans.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — They operate in places like an airport, a resort, and a distribution center, tucked away from the public eye but close enough for easy access. They often emit laughter  and the sound of tumbling blocks, bouncing balls, and meandering tricycles.

They’re child care centers based at workplaces. And in the fraught American child care landscape, they are popping up more frequently.

PHOENIX (AP) — Blas Sanchez was nearing the end of a 20-year stretch in an Arizona prison when he was leased out to work at Hickman’s Family Farms, which sells eggs that have ended up in the supply chains of huge companies like McDonald’s, Target and Albertsons. While assigned to a machine that churns chicken droppings into compost, his right leg got pulled into a chute with a large spiraling augur.

Don’t Run From Mental Health

Recently the Department of Justice was in Nebraska doing town hall meetings to hear allegations that Nebraska has violated provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act by preventing people with serious mental disorders from getting the help they need.  The DOJ is claiming that the state has done a poor job in providing help to people suffering from serious mental health issues like Bi-Polar disorder, deep depression, and other mental health problems.
