Nebraska Environmental Trust Seeks Input On Grant Application Process, Which Has Stirred Past Controversy

LINCOLN — The Nebraska Environmental Trust has scheduled a trio of “listening sessions” — beginning Tuesday — to gather ideas on whether changes are needed in the process of awarding grants that benefit the state’s environment.

The Trust, which grants about $20 million a year in state lottery proceeds after scoring them, has come under fire in recent years for some grant decisions.

In 2014, Nebraska voters passed Initiative 425 by a margin of almost 20 points (59.47% to 40.53%). This initiative raised Nebraska’s minimum wage above the federal minimum wage, going from $7.25 to $8 on Jan, 1, 2015, and then to $9 on Jan. 1, 2016.

11 States To Share In $1 Billion In Funding For Small Businesses, Entrepreneurs

WASHINGTON — The Biden administration announced Tuesday that an additional 11 states will receive up to $1 billion to support small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Funding for the programs will come from the State Small Business Credit Initiative that Democrats reauthorized and expanded in their $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package, known as the American Rescue Plan.

Nebraska Small Business Development Center Awarded Additional $125,000 In FAST Funding

OMAHA – The Nebraska Small Business Development Center has received its third year of Federal and State Technology (FAST) Partnership Program funding of $125,000. FAST provides small businesses and startups, particularly those in underserved communities, with specialized training, mentoring, and technical assistance for research and development. A total of 44 awardees received over $5.4 million in funding nationwide.
