Good For Business

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Mon, 09/22/2025 - 12:00am

I’d like to give you a different perspective on Charlie Kirk’s death. I never met him, but I knew him. I knew him because in some small way, I used to be like him.

Charlie Kirk was a provocateur. He was a controversial figure. He was a radio talk show host.

The Fall Of Rome

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Wed, 09/17/2025 - 12:00am

During my sophomore year at Bishop Watterson High School in Columbus, Ohio, I took a world history class.

It was taught by this nun who was really old, or at least I thought she was. I was in High School, and back then, I thought 40 was really old. But if she wasn’t 80, she sure as hell acted like it. I remember joking that she taught that class when it was called “current events.”

Respect The Voters

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Mon, 09/15/2025 - 12:00am

I have the utmost respect for Crista Eggers and everyone who continues to work so diligently to get medical cannabis to the sick and dying patients of Nebraska. They are not only fighting for that medicine, they are also fighting for democracy.

Let me explain.

Whose Anonymity Are They Really Protecting?

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Wed, 09/10/2025 - 12:00am

As a general rule, until proven otherwise, I like to think the best of people. So, I thought the best of Congressman Bacon when I received this one-sentence press release from his office.

“I voted today to release the Epstein Files. It is more far-reaching than the discharge bill.”

Blue Suits

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 09/09/2025 - 12:00am

It’s funny how some things your parents said when you were a child stay with you almost six decades later.

I grew up in the 60’s. It was an era of protests, riots, and marches to give equal rights to blacks and women. There were many nights when my father, who was a lifelong Republican, and I would have long talks at the dinner table about the news of the day.

Thought And Prayers

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Mon, 09/08/2025 - 12:00am

That tragedy in Minneapolis, where two children were killed, and fourteen other kids and 3 elderly adults were injured, could have been prevented or at least greatly minimized if only the five-year-olds who were attending mass were allowed to conceal carry. The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good toddler with a gun.

Will We Lose Our Slice Of Americana?

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Fri, 08/29/2025 - 12:00am

I am a long-time resident of Dundee, and last Saturday was Dundee Day.

Dundee Day is a slice of Americana.

There was a parade with marching bands, Boy Scouts, politicians, and civic organizations.

We Are On The Same Team

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Wed, 08/27/2025 - 12:00am

I’m trying. I really am.

I’m trying to reach out and understand how decent, intelligent people can be so enamored with Trump or so opposed to him that they can’t be objective with what’s going on.

Lipstick On A Pig

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 08/26/2025 - 12:00am

It must be tough being a Republican politician these days, constantly trying to put lipstick on a pig.

The latest example is Pete Ricketts and Jim Pillen touting the immigration detention center in McCook. They even gave it a cute name… The Cornhusker Clink.
