Sometimes, it’s easier to start with baby steps.

This is perhaps true, appropriately, in the case of the ongoing child care crisis in Nebraska, a large and seemingly insurmountable problem that leaves families in a lurch — especially those below the poverty line or those living in rural child care deserts — both in terms of access and cost.

Dangerous Nitrate Levels Are No Game, Nebraskans Deserve Solutions

Recently there was much discussion about an article from the Flatwater Free Press regarding the nitrates in the water on and near Gov Pillen’s hog farms and the comments the Governor made about them on KFAB radio.

When morning host Gary Sadlemeyer asked the Governor if he had read the article, he said he hadn’t and dismissed it because the author was from Communist China.

Expanding Access To Name, Image, And Likeness (NIL)

On and off the court, Jaz Shelley is a star for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) basketball team. Jaz earned first-team All-Big Ten honors for her electric play. She earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for her work in the classroom. She’s beloved with fans and teammates alike. Like many players, she receives requests from businesses and nonprofits to lend her name, image, and likeness (NIL) in support of a local business or work a summer camp for kids.

History Encourages Optimists

If truth is the first casualty of war, the loss of hope surely runs a close second.

As war now diminishes us on at least two fronts and expectations for peace dim further, a genuine sadness permeates our days. Adding to the malaise is dysfunction permeating our politics and the stench of intolerance, bigotry and hate wafting through our lives. So what chance does hopefulness have?

The U.S. economy is in the early stages of an once-in-a-lifetime shift from an economy powered by fossil fuels. To prevent catastrophic climate change we have to switch quickly to electric vehicles and appliances fueled by renewable energy.

But it shouldn’t come at the expense of good-paying jobs — and it doesn’t have to.
