Help Wanted … Help Is Here

Published by jason@omahadail... on Tue, 09/12/2023 - 12:00am

In honor of Labor Day last week we should take time to celebrate all of our workers across the state and welcome those who want to use their talents in Nebraska.

The facts regarding our Nebraska workforce shortages are stark. There are 80,000 job openings statewide, and there are not enough native-born Nebraskans to fill those jobs.

The Reality Of Electric Vehicles

Published by admin on Mon, 09/11/2023 - 12:00am

Out-of-touch Washington, D.C. bureaucrats are trying to impose their preferences on the entire country. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced burdensome new emissions requirements on American-made vehicles, including both light cars and heavy-duty trucks. These standards require up to two-thirds of new cars and trucks sold in the U.S. to be electric vehicles (EVs) in just eight years. That’s practically an EV mandate.

Difficult Process Produces Solid Result On Prison

Published by Nikki Palmer on Fri, 09/08/2023 - 12:00am

The State of Nebraska got the location for a new prison that it most clearly desired Wednesday when Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and Gov. Jim Pillen signed a memorandum of understanding that swaps 305 acres of land the state purchased at 112th and Adams streets for 300 acres of city property on 70th Street north of Interstate 80.

Skip The Broad Brush When Painting Journalism

Published by jason@omahadail... on Tue, 09/05/2023 - 2:00am

In an unintended sequel to the 2004 book “What’s the Matter with Kansas,” part of the Sunflower State’s justice system has run afoul of the First Amendment. Armed with a warrant signed by a local judge and probably in violation of shield laws, police officers and county sheriffs raided a small-town weekly newspaper and the home of its 98-year co-owner. She died the next day.

On Gun Violence In The U.S.

Published by admin on Fri, 09/01/2023 - 4:00am

It was perfectly legal for the racist killer of three Black people at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Fla., on Saturday to buy and possess the Glock handgun and AR-15-style rifle he used in the shootings, officials said.

Catholic Support For Science-Based City Climate Action Plan For Omaha

Published by admin on Wed, 08/30/2023 - 4:00am

Fall in Nebraska is a special time to experience and give thanks for our natural environment. It is fitting that between Sept. 1 and Oct. 4, the Catholic Church celebrates the Season of Creation. Anticipating this time, we draw on the Church’s wisdom to advocate for an Omaha City Climate Action and Resilience Plan that, at minimum, comprehensively peaks greenhouse gas emissions by 2025, cuts emissions 50% from 2019 levels by 2030 and reaches net zero carbon by 2040.

President Biden’s recent claim that he has “practically” declared a climate emergency has renewed calls for him to actually do so.

And he should.
