On Donald Trump And The 2020 Election

Published by Nikki Palmer on Fri, 08/11/2023 - 2:00am

Of all the ways that Donald Trump desecrated his office as president, the gravest — as outlined in extraordinary detail in the criminal indictment issued against him on Tuesday — was his attempt to undermine the Constitution and overturn the results of the 2020 election, hoping to stay in office.

Published by Nikki Palmer on Thu, 08/10/2023 - 2:00am

The recent banking crisis, marked by the collapse of several major financial institutions, has been a wake-up call for investors worldwide. This crisis has unveiled a hard truth: the traditional banking system, often perceived as a bedrock of financial stability, can be incredibly fragile. Banks, even those with longstanding reputations and seemingly robust structures, have been unable to withstand the economic pressures, leading to sudden collapses.

On The “Humming” U.S. Economy

Published by Nikki Palmer on Tue, 08/08/2023 - 12:00am

For the first time in a while, the nation — and its policymakers — can step out of crisis mode. This is an ideal moment for President Biden and Congress not just to take a victory lap but also to start tackling the United States’ long-running challenges.

Fixing Our Broken Passport System

Published by Nikki Palmer on Mon, 08/07/2023 - 2:00am

Providing oversight of the federal government is a critical part of my job as a United States Senator. From pushing back on illegal new mandates to fighting wasteful spending, there is a lot of important work to do. And while the Biden administration is failing on many policy matters, it’s also failing its responsibility to provide basic constituent services like passports in a reasonable time – and Americans are paying the price.

Intern Appreciation Day

Published by Nikki Palmer on Wed, 08/02/2023 - 1:00am

This past Thursday was Intern Appreciation Day, a special opportunity to thank the young people who spend their time supporting my work in our Washington, Lincoln, and Omaha offices. Last week, the Nebraska delegation dedicated our weekly Nebraska Breakfast, where we meet with fellow Nebraskans visiting our country’s capital, to thanking our interns. This summer, my Washington office was glad to have Emalie, Jack, Justin, and Madison join us in serving the people of Nebraska.

Published by Nikki Palmer on Tue, 08/01/2023 - 1:00am

If you are struggling with your mental health, is it better to come to work or stay off sick? You may think your employer would prefer you try to keep working, but many employers would prefer you take time off to feel better.

On Ethics And The US Supreme Court

Published by Nikki Palmer on Fri, 07/28/2023 - 12:00am

After months of reports about questionable conduct by justices of the U.S. Supreme Court, the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday will consider legislation that would lead to a binding code of conduct for members of the high court. Given the failure of the court to establish a code on its own — despite suggestions from some justices that such an initiative is under consideration — congressional action is overdue.
