Military Families And Veterans Are Among The Biggest Targets Of Scammers

Published by Nikki Palmer on Wed, 05/24/2023 - 1:00am

Since its formal designation by Congress in 1999, May has held the distinction of being Military Appreciation Month. As Americans express their gratitude for service members and their families, a troubling, largely undiscussed reality persists and devastates the same community Americans seek to support.

Preparing For Your First Investor

Published by Nikki Palmer on Tue, 05/23/2023 - 12:00am

“We set up a limited liability company last year for a tech business. There are three of us; one of us acts as ‘managing member’ and the other two vote only on important decisions. We have never had a written agreement for our business.

‘Rhetoric’ Doesn’t Need To Be Such An Ugly Word – It Has A Lot To Teach Echo-Chambered America

Published by Nikki Palmer on Mon, 05/22/2023 - 4:00am

Early on in my writing courses, I ask students to define their sense of rhetoric. Responses range from “persuasion” to “manipulation,” but they tend to share a negative connotation. Little wonder: In America today, the word is often used to dismiss a political opponent. Whereas a Democrat may find a favorite candidate’s speech inspiring, a Republican might call it “mere rhetoric,” implying a lack of substance or even honesty.

Why House Hacking Is Becoming More Popular

Published by jason@omahadail... on Thu, 05/18/2023 - 4:00am

House hacking is a real estate investing strategy that has become extremely popular over the past decade.  First-time and repeat homebuyers are getting creative when buying real estate through various forms of house hacking. This strategy can be successfully pulled off in a single-family home with multiple rooms or a multi-family building. The goal is to rent out the other available rooms (or units) and use that rental income to offset your housing costs.

A Source Of Statewide Pride: Celebrating 25 Years Of The Nebraska Cultural Endowment

Published by admin on Wed, 05/17/2023 - 3:00am

I often meet people who have never heard of the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, and as the executive director, my typical response goes something like this: The endowment is something all Nebraskans should be so proud of — it’s the only public-private endowment of its kind in the United States, it’s funded by the Nebraska Legislature in addition to private donations — and no matter where in the state you live, you’ve likely enjoyed the fruits of its resources.

On The Supreme Court And Ethics

Published by Nikki Palmer on Wed, 04/26/2023 - 2:00am

At least one member of the Supreme Court told Justice Clarence Thomas that there was no problem accepting privately paid luxury trips and other lavish gifts from “close personal friends” without disclosing them, according to a statement issued earlier this month by Justice Thomas.

Assistance Animals…A Fourfold Challenge

Published by Nikki Palmer on Thu, 04/20/2023 - 4:00am

In operations, we all feel pressured to have a certain depth of knowledge on critical topics. This pressure rises to another level when the subject touches the work of our on-site, centralized, supervisory, and corporate team members. That pressure increases to a whole new level when it touches the lives of our applicants, residents, and possibly even our guests with disabilities. And if that wasn’t enough, this particular topic makes up approximately 60% of HUD complaints.

Healthy Ways to Cope With Stress

Published by Nikki Palmer on Wed, 04/19/2023 - 2:00am

Lincoln – Stress Awareness Month has been recognized every April since 1992. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) recognizes the importance of learning to cope with stress and finding healthy ways to deal with situations in our lives that cause stress, which can go a long way to helping Nebraskans live healthy, productive, and positive lives.
