Can Governor Pillen Lower Nebraska Property Tax?

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Thu, 05/02/2024 - 5:00am

Governor Pillen and I have something in common. Neither one of us has a clue on how to pass a 40% reduction in property taxes. The Governor said he was planning on calling a special session of the Unicameral after he failed to get his priority legislation passed this year.

We Don’t Need Voter ID; We Need Voter IQ

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Wed, 05/01/2024 - 12:00am

Law Day is May 1st.  It’s a day where we celebrate our legal system.  A system that’s gotten a lot of publicity lately as a former President goes before the criminal courts for the first time in history.

It’s About Time.

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Thu, 04/25/2024 - 12:05am

The last time I bought a house it took a while. 44 days to be exact. This was strange because it was a house in my neighborhood that I had been in many times before. I knew the schools, I knew the neighbors, and I knew about the light not working in the bathroom if you used the outlet outside. And it still took 44 days. In that 44 days the bank that was loaning me the money had to be sure.

New York Moves To Update Its Fracking Ban To Include Liquid Carbon-Dioxide As Well As Water

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 04/09/2024 - 12:02am
Joan and Harold Koster pose for a photo in front of a historic barn on their property, known as Itaska Valley Farm, Wednesday, March 13, 2024, in Whitney Point, N.Y. The Kosters were asked by Texas-based Southern Tier Energy Solutions to lease their land to extract natural gas by injecting carbon dioxide into the ground, which they rejected and are opposed to.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Natural gas drilling companies would be banned in New York from using an extraction method that involves injecting large amounts of liquified carbon dioxide deep underground under a bill moving through the state legislature.

The measure would immediately block a Texas company that wants to use the method as an alternative to hydraulic fracturing with a water-based solution.

Make The Unicameral Civil Again

Published by Nikki Palmer on Fri, 03/29/2024 - 3:00am

During the summer of 2016 I was doing a talk radio program in Kansas City.  You will recall this was the time when the Donald Trump phenomime was really gaining steam.  I’ll admit I was and still am perplexed about the attraction to the former President, so I asked my callers to tell me what they saw in him that I wasn’t seeing.

Millennial Money: Installment Plans For Rent Divide Up Payments, But Drive Up Costs

Published by Nikki Palmer on Thu, 03/28/2024 - 2:00am

In January, I received an email from my apartment complex saying that I could now divide my monthly rent into two payments via a product called Flex.

I would make the first payment on the first of the month, but I could choose when to make the second payment. According to the email, this would help me pay rent on time, improve my cash flow and even build my credit history. Enticing, right?

Canada Leads On Critical Minerals While The U.S. Falters

Published by Nikki Palmer on Wed, 03/27/2024 - 3:00am

While the United States dawdles, Canada has quietly taken the lead in countering China’s grip on the global supply of critical metals. Both the United States and Canada have raised the alarm over China’s control of mineral supply chains, but only our northern neighbors are taking decisive action to do something about it.

Can You Afford Health Care In Retirement?

Published by Nikki Palmer on Tue, 03/26/2024 - 1:00am

At age 65, some couples may need as much as $413,000 to cover health care costs in retirement, according to a January report from the Employee Benefit Research Institute. That’s an extreme case, representing two people with high prescription drug costs — but it’s not outside the realm of possibility.

"Bloodbath"

Published by Nikki Palmer on Mon, 03/25/2024 - 1:00am

“Now, if I don’t get elected,” Donald Trump said at a rally last weekend in Ohio, “it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole -- that’s going to be the least of it. It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country.”

Who talks like that?
