Slama, Spellerberg, Royal Among State Treasurer Applicants

LINCOLN — This year, Gov. Jim Pillen has the only vote for state treasurer that matters. Pillen’s appointed successor to John Murante will serve until voters get a say in 2026.

The governor has not hinted that he has any favorites among the handful of Republican candidates who have told the Nebraska Examiner they might be interested in the job.

PIERRE — In a unanimous decision, the three-member South Dakota Public Utilities Commission on Wednesday rejected Navigator CO2’s application for a permit to construct the Heartland Greenway carbon capture pipeline in South Dakota.

Ricketts Announces Run For Election To His Appointed Seat In U.S. Senate

OMAHA — U.S. Sen. Pete Ricketts made it official Wednesday, launching a campaign to win election to the Senate seat he was appointed to fill by his successor as governor.

Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen tapped Ricketts, a two-term governor, to succeed Sen. Ben Sasse in January after Sasse resigned to become president of the University of Florida.

Are Forced-Reset Triggers Illegal Machine Guns? ATF And Gun Rights Advocates At Odds In Court Fights

Another rapid-fire gun device that is worrying federal government officials is being put to the test in lawsuits in New York City and Texas. The forced-reset trigger introduced by Rare Breed Triggers in late 2020 has been deemed an illegal machine gun by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The ATF says the trigger can make an AR-15-style rifle fire as fast as a military M-16 machine gun. The ATF is suing Rare Breed in federal court in New York City on civil fraud allegations.
