Together: Omahans Help Aid Homelessness, Food Insecurity

According to the National Low-Income Housing Coalition there are only 38 units available right now for every 100 extremely low-income renters in the state of Nebraska. Mike Hornacek, president and CEO of Together, a local nonprofit whose mission is to prevent and end homelessness and hunger, cites that we are in crisis stages when you talk about affordable housing, like a lot of communities across the state.

Nebraska Labor Laws – Your Rights As An Employee, How Our State Ranks

Many young people starting their first jobs are often unaware of what they are entitled to when it comes to fair work, and many older Nebraskans are in the dark as well. In a 2020 study by Oxfam, a global organization that works to both shed light on and fight inequality, Nebraska ranked 26th out of the 50 states – as well as Puerto Rico and Washington DC – when it came to wage policies, worker protections, and right to organize. For context, the #1 state was California, while North Carolina ranked 52nd.

High Rates Of Amazon Warehouse Injuries Lead To Proposed Legislation

Information recently released by OSHA has found that Amazon warehouse workers here in Nebraska are 53% more likely to be injured than those found in other states. These injuries are all considered preventable and could lead to being disabling.

From Words To Wishes: Bellevue Author’s Book Sales Fund Dream Come True For Bennington Boy

Josh Goblowsky suffered a traumatic brain injury at the age of three. After a long road to recovery, Josh became a children’s book author to share his unique life experience with readers. He decided to donate all of his book proceeds to The Sunshine Foundation, a wish granting organization  that is close to Josh’s heart. Josh Goblowsky is a young man with a big heart and a desire to help others. When he decided to write a children’s book series last year, he made the decision to donate all of the proceeds to charity. He chose The Sunshine Foundation, an organization that had a huge impact on him as a child. Though he didn’t know it at the time, that choice would end up having that same impact on a young boy living in Douglas County.

Omaha Bar Association Opens Giving Circle To Support Nonprofits

Public service is at the core of the Omaha Bar Association’s mission, but those efforts are about to make a quantum leap with the delayed launch of the OBA’s Giving Circle. Dave Sommers, the executive director of the OBA, said the launch has been delayed since 2019 due to the pandemic.

Omaha’s History Lives In Prospect Hill Cemetery

Finding A ‘Fur-Ever’ Home Takes Love, Time And Hope

Harbor of Hope Dog Rescue (HoH) is a nonprofit all-breed dog rescue that “provides a safe haven from life’s storms.” They offer a safe place for dogs that have gone through rough times, often physical or mental trauma, and give them a loving place to heal and grow until they can find a permanent home. They help these canines with vet care, training, healthy diets, and endless love so that they can feel safe and secure.
