This year's four inductees into the Commercial Real Estate Seminar's Hall of Fame have nearly 150 years of experience in the industry.

Deb Graeve-Morrison, Doug Nodgaard, Ember Grummons and Michael Moylan will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during the CRE Summit at CHI Health Center Omaha on Aug. 21, 2026.

"These four individuals are outstanding in their respective fields, and are very deserving of their induction into the CRE Summit Hall of Fame," said Jerry Slusky, CRE Summit founder and co-chair.

Night Survey And Bugs At Fontenelle Forest

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Wed, 07/22/2026 - 12:00am
A hanging bedsheet lit with different spectrums of light, attracting many-hudnreds of species of bugs, waiting to be counted and catolouged by the volunteer team at Fontenelle Forest’s Insect Survey: Night Trapping event on July 11, 2026 in Bellevue, Nebraska.

Long sleeves and long pants with boots – mandatory in July?

Bruh.

My trepidation at losing forty pounds to sweat in the span of two hours at Fontenelle Forest in Bellevue was unfounded.

Stockmen Football: Omaha’s Boys Of Summer

On a hot, overcast Saturday at Ralston High School, with rain dripping from the clouds, the Omaha Stockmen dismantled the Albert Lea (Minnesota) Grizzlies 42-7.

The Stockmen, 5-1 and champions of the Frontier Conference of the Southern Plains Football League, are Omaha's answer to summer football.

The Stockmen have played semi-professional football since 2015. They're Omaha's latest incarnation of minor league football.

The Changing Look of American Immigration Over 250 Years

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Wed, 07/08/2026 - 12:00am
A look at 250 years of American immigration.
(Image created by Tim Trudell using ChatGPT)

The ethnic faces of America continually change as immigrants seek new opportunities. Even Omaha has experienced a changing racial landscape since its founding more than 150 years ago, from the Irish hired to work on the transcontinental railroad to today's influx of Sudanese immigrants.

Champion Of Flavor In Omaha: Thai Orchids

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 07/07/2026 - 12:00am
The Garlic Shrimp and side of rice: “The picture does not do the massive size of the shrimp justice. They did justice to my stomach though. What does that mean? Go eat some! Haha!”
(Austin Petak / The Daily Record)

Imperial tablecloths with gold etchings lay on maroon tables, which themselves stood upon dark floors. Surrounded by broad mirrors, the restaurant's atmosphere was both quaint and regal. Pink and red orchids stood in slim vases just to the side of my menu – a menu with too many options for an overthinker like me, but perhaps just perfect for the rapidly growing metro.

‘Democracy Ain’t No Picnic’ Celebration Calls For Civility

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Fri, 07/03/2026 - 12:00am
Citizens, exercising their civil liberties, display their patriotism during various rallies held throughout the metro area.

Hear ye … Hear ye …

250 years after our Forefathers convened to draft a constitution for our newly formed nation, local civic leaders gathered once again, not to establish a new order, but rather a call to order, with a public proclamation. One, based on the very tenets of our nation’s ideals – life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness – laws, embedded henceforth, to protect our civil rights for generations to come.

No doubt, you’ve heard the derogatory terms flailed by both sides of the political aisle, as if they were members of an opposing team, instead of a united nation. The stony silence at family gatherings, where guests would rather throw plates than break bread, if they even meet at all. And, where former friends only talk at each other, instead of to each other, or no longer speak, severing all personal ties.

‘Minuscule’ Moments, Encounters Lead Michael Jensen to Douglas County Judgeship

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Fri, 06/19/2026 - 12:00am
Judge Michael W. Jensen discusses his path to his judicial appointment before other judges from the Fourth District and Douglas County.
(Tim Trudell / The Daily Record)

At first glance, Matt Kuhse wasn't sure what to make of Michael W. Jensen. In 2006, Don Kleine was elected as Douglas County attorney, moving from the Nebraska Attorney General's Office, and Jensen was one of the people from that office joining him in Omaha.

Kuhse, who served as a deputy attorney for the county from 2001-16 before moving full-time to the City of Omaha, was assigned to a team with Jensen after Kleine assumed the county attorney's role in 2007.

Nebraska City’s Mayhew Cabin Reopens, Sharing Underground Railroad History

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Thu, 06/18/2026 - 12:00am
The Mayhew Cabin, a key site along Nebraska’s portion of the Underground Railroad, reopens tomorrow June 19th, 2026 after being closed for seven years due to flood damage.
(Tim Trudell / The Daily Record)

Less than 20 miles separated freedom from slavery for Blacks in the mid-1800s. For abolitionists, Nebraska City played a key role along the Underground Railroad.

Enslaved people who escaped from Missouri sneaked through Kansas and north to Falls City, Nebraska, and then on to Nebraska City before making the final leg of their journey to Tabor, Iowa.

Nebraska was the westernmost portion of the Underground Railroad. And Nebraska City's Mayhew Cabin is considered one of the most important historical places along the trail.

In Pursuit of Good Food and Second Chances: Ooh-De-Lally

Light, fluffy, and fresh from Maine: a good choice for seafood lovers. Omaha's food scene continues to prove itself with this lobster roll from Ooh-De-Lally in Dundee.
(Austin Petak / The Daily Record)

When people do things right, especially when what they are doing is counter to the cultural norms, it is important to let them know. There is a restaurant in Omaha whose mission does the city proud; like a gem on a crown of nobility, Ooh-De-Lally shines all on its own. From the restaurant's website, its mission:
