Black tie optional was the dress code for this year’s Barristers’ Ball, held annually. 560 registrations were received for the April 13, 2024 gala. Held at the Embassy Suites in LaVista, Nebraska, conversation among colleagues, dinner and dancing to the KC FLO band melded with fun and spirited bidding in the silent and live auctions. The whimsical evening’s theme was “An Evening In Wonderland.”

A new study by Point2  — an organization focusing on real estate trends, and developing studies on local, national, and international housing markets — looked into the cities across America to find the best place for Gen Z’s to buy homes.

Changing Housing Prices, Economic Forecast

For this month’s newsletter, Dr. Goss of Creighton focuses on the changing housing prices in the United States. Comparing the last 3 years, Goss notes a spike in mortgage rates and housing prices that he believes have led to a higher rate of renting over home buying. He noted a 4% spike in the 30-year mortgage rate in the last few years, leading to a high 7%, as well as the average cost of homes creeping up towards the $400,000.

February’s Omaha Table Talk, hosted by University of Nebraska-Omaha and with a pilot launch of a dual event in Lincoln, focused on re-entry into society for the justice impacted. Hosted by the Omaha Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP), this panel was run by Shakur Abdullah, Senior Restorative Justice Trainer at the Community Justice Center as well as Restorative Justice Coordinator at Creighton University.

NRA Loses New York Corruption Trial Over Squandered Funds ­— Retired Longtime Leader Wayne LaPierre Must Repay Millions Of Dollars

A New York jury found on Feb. 23, 2024, that the National Rifle Association and three of its current and former officials had broken the state’s laws by misusing charitable assets. It also determined that two of the officials should repay the gun group millions of dollars.

Sip, Snuggle, Adopt At Omaha’s Only Cat Café And Rescue

Felius is a nonprofit, open-concept cat shelter that facilitates adoptions, assists community cats through TNR, and educates Omaha metro cat lovers. After five years at their downtown location (522 S. 24th St.) and thousands of cats being adopted and rescued, Felius is moving to a larger location at 5015 Dodge in May 2024 giving the nonprofit the ability to “triple the number of cats” they help annually.

Felius is Omaha’s only cat café and rescue. Founded by Bre Phelan in 2018, Felius works to help rescued cats and kittens find their forever home. Their mission is to “create meaningful, authentic connections between people and rescue cats” with their cat shelter and café. Since their founding they have helped over 1,100 cats find homes as well as over 800 with their Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNR) program.

Anyone Can Be An Artist At ‘That Pottery Place’

Nancy King, owner of That Pottery Place, showcases the hundreds of ceramic pieces available for customers at her paint-your-own pottery studio in Omaha, now celebrating its 26th year in business.

Their ceramics can be found in tens of thousands of homes in Omaha and the country. While they might not ever fetch the price of a Picasso, the pieces are regarded as priceless works of art, not for their monetary value, but for their sentiment.
