Omaha Streetcar Project: What To Know About TIF Funding

The Omaha Streetcar Authority says, “The streetcar generates the money to pay for itself by sparking new economic development and enhancing the value of what already exists along the route, without raising the property tax levy.”

In 1963, Gideon v. Wainwright confirmed a defendant’s right to counsel, yet today the equal access to the right to counsel can be disproportionate for indigent defendants.

While the United States Supreme Court confirmed a defendant’s right to counsel in 1963 via Gideon v. Wainwright (372 U.S. 335), much work continues to level the playing field in actually ensuring proper representation for indigent defendants, says Jason D. Williamson, a leading national advocate on the issue.

Chris Tonniges, President and CEO of Lutheran Family Services, and Wayne Brown, President and CEO of the Urban League of Nebraska, found that there wasn’t a space for nonprofit executives to meet and have the opportunity to collaborate. The “Future of Human Care” Symposium was created to bring nonprofits together to harness the power of collaboration.

Douglas County Commissioner Promotes Hopeful Future For Aging Nebraskans

Written and compiled by Peter Golden, the book is a collection of 30 different government officials and their areas of expertise.

The Omaha Streetcar Project Is Underway. Here’s What You Need To Know.

For the past few years, Mayor Jean Stothert has spoken about her plans for a streetcar for Omaha. Starting last summer, the plans were officially finalized, and the Omaha Street Car Authority was established, with the intention to have the streetcar up and running by spring 2027 according to a recent newsletter from the Omaha Streetcar Authority.

Truth Or Fallacy: Can Politicians Be Above The Law?

In March of 2022 nine-term Nebraska Senator Jeff Fortenberry was found guilty of three felony counts for making false statements to the FBI and concealing information about his campaign donations. The investigation stemmed from a campaign donation by Nigerian billionaire, Gilbert Chagoury. Through three strawmen, Chagoury donated $30,000 to Fortenberry’s campaign in 2016. When brought to court, Fortenberry denied any such contributions.
