The Best Smaller U.S. Cities For Outdoor Enthusiasts

A new study by CommercialSearch, an organization focused on commercial real estate reports, has found that Omaha is in the top 10 in the small cities category for outdoor enthusiasts.

The categories examined cities with a population above or below 500,000 and cities were scored out of 100 points on:

SCOTUS: Justices Uphold Indian Child Welfare Act

The creation of Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) stemmed from the Devils Lake Sioux’s concern about the treatment they received by the county welfare officers in 1968. Children were regularly removed from their homes and placed into foster homes or adopted by non-native households. All rehoming was done without consultation from either tribal leaders or the community.

On June 29, 2023, the Supreme Court came to a decision on Students for Fair Admission Inc. v. President and Fellows of Harvard College and Students for Fair Admission Inc v. University of North Carolina. In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court invalidated admission policies, effectively ending decades of race conscious admission policies.

‘Barbenheimer’: The Double Feature That Revived The Movie Theater

In 2023 the US and Canada have sold nearly 830 million tickets which, though better than 2020’s 220 million, is far behind 2018’s 1.3 billion. It is largely due to the ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ marketing strategy which made both movies nonnegotiable must-sees.

Omaha Ranked #1 For Corporate Retreats For Mid-Sized Metros

In a study by CoworkingCafe, Omaha ranked #1 for corporate retreats for mid-sized metros. They used eight different metrics to score cities, such as the number of team-building establishments, amount of co-working spaces available, and multiple different entertainment venues that can be found for visitors; they compared different cities in three different size categories based on population.

While it’s commonly believed slavery ended on Juneteenth, the date in June 1865 when the last slaves, in parts of Texas, learned the Civil War had ended and they were free people, the Reconstruction era brought new threats to new-found freedoms. The formation of the Ku Klux Klan, passage of the Black Code – legal slavery – and Jim Crow laws were among those challenges, according to a local museum exhibit dedicated to the history of the Emancipation Proclamation.
