DCHC Reports Second Death, Seeks Community Donations
Last Tuesday, Douglas County officials received confirmation that a second Douglas County Health Center resident died from COVID-19. The long term care resident, a woman in her 90s with comorbidities, had been hospitalized after contracting the virus.
Erin Nelson, administrator of the DCHC, said staff believe they have contained the spread of the virus to two areas of the health center.
“We basically turned those two areas into our own quarantine with guidance from Nebraska Medicine’s Biocontainment Unit experts,” Nelson said.
The center is asking for donations of additional supplies for its residents, including new packages of large print easy Sudoku puzzles, word searches, puzzles (fewer than 200 pieces), adult coloring books, crayons, colored pencils, washable markers, colored paper, water color paint kits, and dry erase boards.
The center’s staff wants stretchy headbands with buttons for masks, Life Savers Mints and mint gum.
To make a donation, call 402-444-7413. Or in lieu of donations, you can mail postcards or drawings for residents to Douglas County Health Center, Attn: Recreational Therapy, 4102 Woolworth Ave., Omaha, NE 68105.
