Two new judges were appointed to the Douglas County District Court last Friday by Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts.

Ricketts named attorneys Tressa M. Alioth and Todd O. Engleman to the bench of the District Court for the 4th Judicial District. They fill the vacancies created by the retirements of Judges Gary B. Randall and James T. Gleason.

Alioth, 47, of Bennington has worked as deputy county attorney in the Douglas County Attorney’s Office since 1998. Her responsibilities with the office have included serving as lead prosecutor in felony trials and supervising a team of six felony deputy county attorneys. Alioth also has experience as an attorney in the Domestic Violence Division and Civil Division of the Douglas County Attorney’s Office.

 Alioth holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Creighton University and a law degree from the Creighton University School of Law. Since 2018, she has been an adjunct professor in the University of Nebraska at Omaha School of Criminology and Criminal Justice.

 Alioth is a board member of the Nebraska County Attorneys Association, Nebraska State Bar Association, the National District Attorneys Association and the Nebraska State Council Interstate Compact for Adult Supervision.

Additionally, Alioth is on the leadership team of Love Church and serves on the board of Room for Roots, a nonprofit offering mentorship programs.

Engleman, 46, of Omaha is a lifelong Nebraskan. He has worked as managing attorney at Nebraska Legal Group in Omaha since August 2016, specializing in family law. He was the associate general counsel of Waite, McWha, & Heng in North Platte from 2012 to 2015. Engleman served in the Lincoln County Attorney’s Office as deputy county attorney from 2001 to 2007 and as chief county attorney from 2008 to 2012.

 Engleman holds a Bachelor of Science with concentrations in political science and history, from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and a law degree — awarded cum laude — from the Creighton University School of Law. He is a member of the Nebraska Bar Association.

Engleman is a member of both the Nebraska Mediation Association and Nebraska Family Mediation Association. He served as chairman of the Lincoln County Leadership Council from 2009 to 2015.

Engleman has previously served on the Lincoln County Substance Abuse Coalition from 2007 to 2015, the Lincoln County Drug Forum from 2007 to 2015 and as a Lincoln County Civil Service Commission member from 2013 to 2015.
