SECTION I - Opening Procedures
Notice of the meeting was given in advance by the publication and/or posting in accordance with the Board approved method for giving notice of meetings. Notice of this special meeting was published in the public notices section of the January 4, 2024 edition of The Daily Record and on their website as well as on the district website. Notice of this meeting was given in advance to all members of the Board of Education. The Secretary of the Board maintains a list of the news media requesting notification of meetings and advance notification to the listed media of the time and place of the meeting and the subjects to be discussed at this meeting was provided. Availability of the agenda was communicated in the publicized notice and a current copy of the Agenda was maintained as stated in the publicized notice. All proceedings of the Board of Education, except as may be hereinafter noted, were taken while the convened meeting was open to the attendance of the public.
1.1 Call Meeting to Order - Rick Hollendieck
called the meeting to order.
1.2 Roll Call - Board members present were:
Greg Beach, Rick Hollendieck, Kyle Janssen, and Dawn Stock. Board members absent were: Mark Hauptman and Blake Turpen. Others present were: Caroline Foresman.
1.3 Pledge of Allegiance - The board recited the
pledge of allegiance.
1.4 Approval of Minutes - Motion by Dawn
Stock, seconded by Greg Beach to approve the minutes of January 8, 2024. A roll call vote was taken - Blake Turpen, absent; Kyle Janssen, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Greg Beach, yes; Mark Hauptman, absent; and Dawn Stock, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 4; Nays 0; Absent 2.
SECTION II – Reports
2.1 NASB Report on Superintendent Search -
Shari Becker, representing the Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB), provided an overview to the public regarding the ongoing superintendent search process, number of candidates applied for the superintendent position and conveyed the board will be actively involved in the selection process by identifying and choosing candidates for interviews.
SECTION III - Matters Requiring Board Action
3.1 Executive Session to Discuss Superintendent
Candidates and Applications for the Protection of the Public’s Interest and to Prevent the Needless Injury to the Reputation of an Individual. - Motion by Greg Beach, seconded by Dawn Stock to enter into executive session. A roll call vote was taken - Dawn Stock, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; Greg Beach, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Mark Hauptman, absent; and Blake Turpen, absent.
Motion carried. Yeas 4; Nays 0; Absent 2. TIME: 7:08 p.m.
Mark Hauptman arrived at the meeting. TIME: 7:10 p.m.
Motion by Mark Hauptman, seconded by Greg Beach to exit executive session. A roll call vote was taken - Rick Hollendieck, yes; Blake Turpen, absent; Kyle Janssen, yes; Dawn Stock, yes; Greg Beach, yes; and Mark Hauptman, yes.
Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1. TIME: 7:56 p.m.
3.2 Possible Action From Executive Session -
Motion by Dawn Stock, seconded by Greg Beach to announce, B, C, and D as finalists for the Superintendent position. A roll call vote was taken Greg Beach, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; Blake Turpen, absent; Dawn Stock, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; and Rock Hollendieck, yes.
Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.
Mark Hauptman exited the meeting. TIME: 8:02 p.m.
SECTION IV - Announcements and Dates
4.1 Set Next Board Meeting Date - The next
meetings are special board meetings on January 18th and January 19th at 3:30pm and January 20th 7:30 am with a board retreat following at 8:30 am or 30 minutes at the conclusion of the previous meeting.
4.2 Adjournment - Motion by Greg Beach,
seconded by Kyle Janssen, to adjourn the meeting. A roll call vote was taken - Kyle Janssen, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Blake Turpen, absent; Mark Hauptman, absent; Dawn Stock, yes; and Greg Beach, yes.
Motion carried. Yeas 4; Nays 0; Absent 2. TIME: 8:34 p.m.
