King Shit

My president literally just virtually shit on me. And perhaps he shit on you as well.

I apologize for that language, but I guess when talking about what is going on under this administration, decorum, decency, and dignity have gone out the window.

I, along with several million of my closest friends, participated in the No Kings rally. Obviously, President Trump wasn’t fond of his fellow Americans showing their displeasure at his performance, so he put out an AI generated video where he piloted a fighter jet that flew over the protesters and dumped piles of shit on them.

Mind you, this was not some right-wing teenager in his parent’s basement that put this together and sent it out. No, this was the President of the United States!!! The leader of the free world!!! The man literally virtually shit on half of the American people.

Can you imagine the press releases and the comments that Pete Ricketts, Don Bacon, Deb Fischer, Jim Pillen, and almost every other Republican and conservative commentator would be putting out if a Democrat had done that? Remember how upset Republicans got when Hillary Clinton called Trump supporters “deplorables?”

The silence from the good Republicans is deafening.

Do our Republican governing officials condone this behavior? Do they think this is the actions of a sane man? They remained silent when an American flag with a Swastika was hanging in a Republican Congressman’s office. They remained silent when members of a group of Republicans in their 30’s made racist, antisemitic, and homophobic texts where they among other things, praised Hitler.

And when I used the term good Republicans, I was not using that in a sarcastic or pejorative manner. I meant it. I know many good people who are Republicans who just ignore or passively accept this type of behavior. I believe that deep down some of my Republican friends know they made a mistake in voting for him, but they can’t acknowledge that publicly. Perhaps they are unaware of it because they only get their news from Fox news and other conservative sources.

A Republican talking point was that the protesters hated America. I was there because I love America. I hate what is happening to it and I want to do my part to right this ship. If I hated America, I would remain quiet about what is going on.

They say that seven million people showed up. I don’t know how they can say that since some people like me got there late and others left early. But even if that seven million number is accurate that doesn’t include the countless people that drove down Dodge and honked their horns in solidarity. I’m sure similar drive by support was evident in other cities as well.

I ran into a former neighbor at the rally. She was there with her father who must be well into his 80’s. She asked me if the protest would do any good. I told her I was optimistic. The MAGA movement started out with the Tea Party rallies. Donald Trump was able to harness that anger and ride it to the White House. I said the only issue is who will be able to harness the energy of No Kings.

One of the people who is trying to take that position is California Governor Gavin Newsome. Newsome has stood up to the President in court and has trolled him by putting out parody tweets that mimic the ones the president puts out.

And while I have found most of his tweets to be rather humorous, I didn’t find his latest one to be funny at all.

He had an AI post where he was the pilot of a fighter jet who dumped shit on the January 6th insurrectionists. And while I believe those people should still be in prison, I don’t see how him dumping shit on those Americans helps his cause or does anything to unify the country. He doesn’t need to stoop to Trump’s level. I don’t want to see the battle between the Republicans and Democrats turn into a western version of the Sunni and the Shiites or the Israeli’s and the Palestinians.

I want us to be able to settle our differences peacefully like we have for most of our 250 years.

Our Founding Fathers gave us a Republic if we can keep it. They were explicitly against being ruled by a king.

I have no doubt if they were alive today our Founding Fathers would have been at a No Kings rally. Because even though he was elected, Trump thinks he’s King Shit.
