Nebraska will follow the national example and move its income tax filing deadline.

The deadline will shift from April 15 to July 15, Gov. Pete Ricketts announced last Monday in his daily update on the state’s response to COVID-19.

Nevertheless, Ricketts encourages those who can to file their taxes by the previous deadline.

“If you have not been impacted and can file by April 15, please do so,” he said.

Ricketts assured Nebraskans that, despite the “national rumor,” there is no discussion of the National Guard being called to enforce martial law. He called the rumor “absolutely false.”

Todd Becker, CEO of local ethanol company Green Plains, announced that the company will be donating ethanol to be made into hand sanitizer at the Department of Corrections. Other area businesses are also working to convert alcohol to hand sanitizer.
