Omaha Ranks 12th For Tech Development
A new survey by CommercialCafe — an information hub for CRE news and reports — lists Omaha as 12th in the Midwest for tech development. Their study, ranking the 20 best cities across the entire Midwest for those interested in the tech field, covered multiple factors:
Number of tech companies per 1,000 businesses
The number of computer and/or mathematical jobs per 1,000
The increase in the tech sector for each city between 2017-2021
The number of computer and/or mathematical jobs between 2017-2021
Median tech earnings in the last year for those 16 and older
Growth of median tech earnings between 2017-2021
Patents granted between 2018-2022
Number of organizations contributing to patents between 2018-2022
Quality of Life Index
Unemployment Rate
Percentage of those 25 or older with a bachelor’s or higher
Regional Price Parity
Omaha scored 48 points, with one of the higher quality of life scores and an unemployment rate of 2.2% in the technology and mathematical sectors. Omaha also had a decent employment density, with an average of 46 math or tech jobs per 1,000 positions in the city, and an average income of $81,000. The Metro was just ahead of both Cincinnati, OH and Lansing, MI in the study.
Madison, WI was the top Midwestern city for tech development, with the highest ratio of tech employment opportunities and the second-highest earnings for tech work (with Chicago edging out for the highest earnings).
Lincoln, meanwhile, sat at 20th for the Midwest, holding a lower cost of living than most other cities and an equally low unemployment rate.
