Veteran Attorney Continues To Serve, But In Court Of Law

John S. Berry finished his military career as a battalion commander in the Nebraska Army National Guard, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. In 2019, he was inducted into the Nebraska National Guard Regional Training Institute Hall of Fame.

Labeled by Plato as one of the “Seven Sages of Greece,” a man who was both sophist and leader, “Pittacus of Mytilene” was born in 640 BC. During his life he led the men of his city against Athens, and, desiring to avoid bloodshed challenged the general of the opposing army to single combat, and won. For this, Pittacus was heralded as a champion and given supreme power over the city and the lands.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Senate gathered behind closed doors Tuesday to hear from federal law enforcement officials about protection for lawmakers and the safety of their families, just days after a gunman said to be posing as a police officer targeted state lawmakers in Minnesota.

Marshbanks’ Investment Adviser, Jesse T. Hill, Pleads Guilty To Bank Fraud Conspiracy

OMAHA — A key figure in a loan scam in which more than $45 million in credit was sought from 19 Nebraska and Iowa banks has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud.

Jesse T. Hill, 35, of Hickman, entered a guilty plea in U.S. District Court, federal prosecutors announced this week.

Brad Lander, NYC Comptroller And Mayoral Candidate, Is Arrested At Immigration Court

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City comptroller and Democratic mayoral candidate Brad Lander was arrested by federal agents at an immigration court Tuesday after he linked arms with a person that authorities were attempting to detain.

A reporter with The Associated Press witnessed Lander’s arrest at a federal building in Manhattan. The person Lander was walking out of the courtroom was also arrested.

OMAHA — As many as 100 workers suspected of being in the country illegally were ensnared, witnesses said, in what immigration officials said was its largest Nebraska enforcement operation since President Donald Trump took office.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police swiftly enforced a downtown curfew, making arrests moments after it took effect, while deploying officers on horseback and using crowd control projectiles to break up a group of hundreds demonstrating against President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.
