OMAHA — U.S. Rep. Don Bacon has survived another close race in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District, declaring victory Wednesday morning after pulling away from State Sen. Tony Vargas overnight to secure a fifth term.

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — The first time China faced Donald Trump in the White House, there was a trade war, a breach of protocol involving Taiwan’s former leader, and a president-to-president bromance that turned sour.

As President-elect Trump prepares to start his second term in office, China is bracing for unpredictability in its ties with the United States and renewed tensions over trade, technology and Taiwan.

LINCOLN — Gov. Jim Pillen has elevated one of the associate justices on the Nebraska Supreme Court to be the state’s next chief justice.

Pillen selected Justice Jeffrey Funke of Nebraska City to succeed Chief Justice Mike Heavican of Lincoln, who will retire at the end of October.

Amazon was in line to receive a $10 billion contract from the Department of Defense for cloud computing (the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure, or JEDI, contract) when, at the last minute, the contract was awarded to Microsoft. Then-President Donald Trump has been outspoken about not wanting the contract to go to Amazon.

OMAHA — Nebraska’s 2nd District bathed in the attention Saturday of presidential surrogates befitting a swing state, not the most populous part of a conservative state that Republicans rule.
