Conservative PACs Inject Millions Into Local School Races

As Republicans and Democrats fight for control of Congress this fall, a growing number of conservative political action groups are targeting their efforts closer to home: at local school boards.

Their aim is to gain control of more school systems and push back against what they see as a liberal tide in public education classrooms, libraries, sports fields, even building plans.

Early mail-in ballots for Nebraska’s Nov. 8 general election are arriving in the mailboxes of those who have requested them. Registered Nebraska voters can vote by mail for any reason – Nebraska is among the nation’s “no-excuse” states when it comes to absentee voting. You have until Oct. 28 to request an early mail-in ballot.

Women Could Claim The Most Governors’ Seats In U.s. History In November

WASHINGTON — Women running in governors’ races throughout the country are potentially set to break records if elected this November.

In total there are 25 women governor candidates nominated by the two major political parties this election cycle, sharply up from 16 in 2018.

High Court Will Hear Social Media Terrorism Lawsuits

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court said Monday it will hear two cases seeking to hold social media companies financially responsible for terrorist attacks. The cases are seen as an important test of the federal law that generally makes internet companies exempt from liability for the material users post on their networks.

Learning Community Of Douglas & Sarpy Counties Is Accepting Applications For Its Governing Body

Omaha, Neb. - After a successful inaugural year, the Omaha Land Bank has selected 17 ambassadors for the 2022-2023 program year. Following a kick-off event this month, ambassadors will learn the ins and outs of the Land Bank, including the acquisitions and dispositions process; affordable housing policy considerations; understanding tax lien certificates and the foreclosure process; and diversity, equity, and inclusion training.

Six States File A Challenge To The Biden Administration's Student Loan Cancellation Program

Today, six states filed a challenge to the Biden Administration’s student loan cancellation program in federal court in Missouri. In it, they ask the Court for an immediate temporary restraining order pausing the program. Prompt relief is being sought because the Biden Administration has indicated it will start cancelling loan balances as early as next week.
