What’s a billion dollars? Can a person adequately conceptualize it? Sure, it's a thousand million. It’s like what, thirty big yachts? Who here knows what a yacht costs? Or I could build like, uh, thirty schools? I dunno, man, after a certain point, numbers to a layman are just that, numbers. A quote which is misattributed to Joseph Stalin comes from the French newspaper ‘Comic-Finance’:
“War? It’s not that terrible! The death of one man is, indeed, a terrible thing, but one hundred-thousand deaths is a statistic.” (1924)

LINCOLN — For the third month in a row, Nebraska’s monthly tax receipts came in below economic projections, which could spell trouble for state lawmakers when they convene for the 2027 legislative session.
The state Department of Revenue’s report on May’s tax receipts showed a net loss of 7.8% compared to what Nebraska’s Economic Forecasting Advisory Board had predicted in late February. That difference equates to about $43 million less in revenue headed to the state’s coffers.

Back when the world was a simpler and more savage place, when the stars in the night sky were not counted in the tens or hundreds, but in made-up numbers more akin to the holes in an old blanket, used to roof a child’s fort – back when American frontiersmen sought to distance themselves from busy coastal cities and with arms of granite they would hewn down prehistoric trees to make one room cabins for their families– there was a need in the Thirteen Colonies for men to be able to vote from their homesteads.
