Sheriff’s Office Taking Phone Reports Due to Coronavirus

Nonemergency reports to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office are now being directed to a new telephone reporting line, similar to one used by the Omaha Police Department, to help reduce deputies’ direct interaction with the public as coronavirus continues to spread in the community.

Emergency dispatchers will direct 911 calls to the reporting line.

Shelter Seeks More Donations

As the area’s homeless population seeks during this crisis, Siena Francis House is now serving more meals and providing more shelter.

The shelter is asking for more in-kind donation items, which can be dropped off to the loading dock of the Emergency Shelter, accessible from the west side of 16th Street, just north of Nicholas Street.

Bus Service Suspending Fares

In a continuing effort to limit the spread of COVID-19, Metro is offering free fares for bus and paratransit services and encouraging riders to use back bus doors.

“We are all facing an unprecedented challenge” said Metro’s Executive Director Curt Simon. “Our goal is to protect front-line staff and support our riders.”

Provider at Children’s Hospital Tests Positive for COVID-19

A health care provider at the neonatal intensive care unit of Children’s Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha has tested positive for COVID-19.

Hospital officials said last week that the person was working the previous weekend and had contact with 10 patients. The families of the patients and hospital staff members who came in contact with the provider have been informed.

Nebraska Eviction Trials Postponed by Ricketts’ Order

After public officials pleaded with landlords to avoid evictions during the pandemic, Gov. Pete Ricketts issued an executive order last Wednesday protecting renters directly affected by COVID-19 from facing eviction until June.

Sarpy, Cass Counties Issue New Directed Health Measure

Salons, tattoo parlors and similar businesses in Sarpy and Cass counties must close.

The Sarpy/Cass Health Department issued a directed health measure Sunday evening that ordered businesses in the beauty services industry to cease operations by 12:01 a.m. Tuesday.
